Last week, six important members of our community - people who embody compassion, kindness and demonstrate the values of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training - were honored at the Crime Prevention Breakfast & Awards ceremony. StarkMHAR Executive Director, John Aller, was pleased to give remarks as CIT training is an integral part of the intersection of law enforcement and behavioral health, and we are proud to foster impactful partnerships in this area.

CIT stands for Crisis Intervention Team, which is a training model that was created in Memphis, Tennessee to address the special challenges law enforcement faces when someone with a mental health or substance use issue is involved with law enforcement. Goals are around safety, diversion, and access to treatment and support rather than jail whenever possible, which is why StarkMHAR provides the funding for this initiative. Stark County is fortunate to have a partnership between StarkMHAR, the Stark County Sheriff's Office, and NAMI Stark County to conduct this training on an ongoing basis, making better outcomes possible for all.
